The Structure and Propagation Methods of the Islamic Seminary Clerics in the Age of the Three Marja’s (1936-1943)

Abstract

In addition to understanding the importance of Islamic seminary clerics to their mission in propagating religion and paying attention to it, and with the aim of obtaining the structure and methods of their propagation in the age of the three Marja’ (a jurist and religious scholar who issues fatwas), the present study tries to answer the question that " What was the structure and methods of propagation Islamic seminary clerics in the age of the three marja’s (Seyed Mohammad Taqi Khansari, Seyed Sadruddin Sadr and Seyyed Mohammad Hojjat Koh Kamari: 1936-1943)? To find the answer to this question, the required information was first collected using library sources and then we got the answer by describing and analyzing the data. The findings of the present study suggest that the Islamic seminary clerics in this era had very difficult conditions and the pressure of the government on the seminary was so much that the dismantling of the Islamic seminary of Qom was even expected. In this era, by tolerating great hardships and self-sacrifice, the three marja’s succeed in managing and keeping the seminary with measures such as the maintaining the existing schools and establishing new schools, the scientific training of students and fixing students' material problems, as well as preserving propagational structure of Islamic seminary clerics. In the propagational methods, the Islamic seminary clerics used the speeches, propagation in written media such as books and press, collective prayers such as Friday prayers, holding ceremonies of Ahl al-Bayt and rain prayers, political efforts to implement rulings and poetry
