Clerics and Religious Propagation after Ayatollah Boroujerdi in the Era of the Five Marjas

Abstract

Propagation of religion is one of the important issues for religious society and scholars used every opportunity to promote religion throughout the history of Islam’s school of thought. One of the most important historical periods of Islamic seminary of Qom was the period after the authority of Ayatollah Boroujerdi, in which great ayatollahs including Imam Khomeini, Marashi Najafi, Golpayegani, Khansari and Shariatmadari were the religious authorities, and the Islamic seminaries were under the leadership of these Marjas. In this study, the role and position of clerics and how to propagate religion in the era of the mentioned five marjas have been discussed. This research, through the method of describing and analyzing historical data, deals with the facilities, challenges and propagation opportunities of this period, with the aim of turning challenges into opportunities and also strengthening successful methods, as a roadmap for propagators. The findings suggest that the diversity of propagation activities of Islamic seminaries in different areas, establishing a library, publishing books, responding to doubts, paying attention to Qur’anic activities and international propagation, are among the characteristics of this period, which has also had significant accomplishments
