Islamic Seminaries and the Approach of Making Civilization A reflection on a Historical Role

Abstract

The Shia scientific institutions, whose heritage was gathered together in a place called Islamic seminary over time, not only in religious sciences, but also in medicine, astronomy, mathematics and other human and natural sciences, had owned works that were admired in Islamic civilization. The question of this study is the historical role of the seminary in making civilization and its approach. The present article introduces the civilization-building features of the Islamic seminaries via a descriptive-analytical method and is based on the hypothesis that the role of the Islamic seminaries in the dimension of civilization has been able to preserve the basis of Islam and update it to different times and cultures. The findings of the study suggest that the Islamic seminary, which is a legacy of Shia educational institutions, has been able to develop making civilization in various intellectual areas, and finally, with the establishment of the Islamic government, it provides the context for the implementation of Islamic civilization
