Abstract

Livelihood refers to the necessities an individual requires for existence and living. This article is dedicated to examining the factors contributing to the abundance or scarcity of livelihood, drawing upon Quranic verses and Hadiths. Livelihood is a relative concept, varying according to the conditions of time, place, and an individual's social standing. It encompasses all elements that fulfill human needs and provide welfare and comfort. The expansion or contraction of livelihood depends on various material and spiritual factors. Islamic verses and narrations emphasize striving to secure and expand one's livelihood, suggesting that one-third of one's time should be dedicated to this purpose. Furthermore, faith and piety (*Taqwa*), seeking forgiveness (Istighfar), maintaining family ties (Silat al-Rahm), giving charity, and good moral character are among the most significant spiritual factors for the expansion of livelihood. Conversely, sins such as foul language, ill-temperedness, wastefulness (Israf), betrayal of trust, lying, and wine-drinking are factors that lead to the contraction of livelihood.
